  • Aqua’s Awards: PETA Proggy Award Given to Jeanne Gang’s Eco-Friendly Aqua Design

    Along with being the Emporis Skyscraper of the Year and the 5th tallest building constructed in the world in 2009, Aqua is also garnering awards for its eco-friendly design. The LEED-seeking building not only houses pet-friendly residences — it was also built with a particular consciousness toward Chicago’s migratory bird populations and is being awarded for looking out for the birds! The PETA Proggy Award recognizes animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture and was awarded to Aqua this past year.

  • Lakeshore East in Top 20

    Veteran Real Estate Columnist Dennis Rodkin embraces Lakeshore East in the April issue of Chicago magazine, calling the community “a model of 21st century urban life.”

                In his article titled ”20 Great Towns and Neighborhoods,” as well as viewers of the popular WTTW TV show, Chicago Tonight, Rodkin discusses roaming the streets of Chicago and its suburbs for almost 20 years identifying elements that contribute to the quality of life.

                In his experience, what Rodkin describes as 20 of his favorite places “distinguish themselves several key ways.”  The criteria he focused on ranged from house prices, with an eye toward affordability in these complicated economic times, ease of transportation, quality of schools, etc.  He observes “You don’t merely buy or rent a home, you invest in a community as well, and in these 20 places you get a lot in that deal.”

  • The Park at Lakeshore East: Our Green Foundation

    The plan for our Chicago developments at Lakeshore East has been green from the get-go. As a master-planned community, Lakeshore East needed to provide a village feel in downtown Chicago for urban dwellers who still wanted a neighborhood lifestyle. As a contribution to downtown Chicago, the development needed to rehabilitate the neglected East Side of the city. What used to be a busy port at the intersection of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River had become a forgotten site difficult for developers and architects because of its 36-foot drop from street elevation to ground level on its south end.
