Properties included in the contest are the mixed-use Aqua tower and two rental towers – The Shoreham and The Tides – at Lakeshore East as well as the mid-rise at 2555 N. Clark.

“You simply have to tour any of these rental properties and you are eligible to win the iPad” explained Sherri Cuda, leasing manager of the NNP Residential Portfolio.

“This is a particularly fitting give-away since NNP properties offer high-tech and cutting edge amenities,” she continued. “This includes high-speed Internet and free wireless Internet access in all building club floors at Lakeshore East as well as The Park at Lakeshore East.”

NNP Residential is an affiliate of Magellan Development Group, one of Chicago’s leading real estate developers and developer of award-winning Lakeshore East.

  • BKL Project Profile: 37 Signals

    Posted by admin | October 20, 2010 | No Comments » |

BKL Meets Client’s Growth Surge With Lots and Lots of Space

37signals, a Chicago-based company that specializes in productivity tools, had a problem that they presented the architectural firm of Brininstool, Kerwin & Lynch, which recently formed a strategic alliance with Magellan Development Group.

Simply put, 37signals was experiencing a surge of business that challenged their own productivity,  The company, that produces products like management software Campfire and Basecamp and the popular blog Signal vs. Noise, initially rented out five desks in another firm.  To solve a problem produced by an expanding ratio of employees to available desks they flexed their hours and leaned on their own products to collaborate remotely.

But about two years ago the firm produced a book called Rework that triggered a mini-boom of business and the shared space was no longer functional. For one, it didn’t provide much privacy. And they needed a place where 10 non-Chicago employees could work when they come to town.

That’s when they tapped BKL to design and build out a 10,000-square-foot rented space in the West Loop previously used by Crate and Barrel as a photography studio.

The most important element of the space was, of course, space, and lots of it. And 37signals wanted their new headquarters to serve as a physical embodiment of their productivity principles.

BKL responded with an extremely open with a kitchen, lots of seating at long tables and a room of personal workspaces flooded with natural light.

Contemporary New Designer Display Model Unveiled at 2555 N. Clark St. Apartments

A bold designer display model produced by a vibrant color palette has been unveiled at the mid-rise 2555 N. Clark apartment complex.

Anna Harris, marketing coordinator for interior designer Mary Cook & Associates explained “we wanted to make the space feel young, fresh and very lively so we knew that color was going to be huge.”

Also noting that paint is the least expensive way to make the biggest impact on interior design, the designer model presents the medium in a variety of ways.

For one, the firm applied large-scale stripes to balance long walls and window locations in the main living area and bedroom, noting that “paint stripes can be easy to execute and afford the opportunity to add multiple colors and tones to add interest without having to buy expensive art.”

The firm selected a deep gray color for the kitchen to enhance white countertops and cabinets that also makes the space feel bigger.

Mindful of scale and function, the designers selected contemporary-style furniture for the model and for a finishing touch added large mirrors to add light and reflect the beautiful views and colorful art and accessories available in local neighborhoods.

The 2555 N. Clark building offers a portfolio of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments that currently rent from $1,153 to $2,352 monthly.

The building’s popularity is enhanced by its proximity to Lincoln Park and its hiking/biking and running path, the Lincoln Park Zoo, numerous eateries and entertainment options and proximity to both Lake Michigan and excellent transportation to downtown.

The lifestyle quality of residents is enhanced by indoor and outdoor amenities that include a fitness facility, sauna, rooftop deck with panoramic city views and business center featuring a complimentary coffee bar.  These amenities are available at no additional charge, as are most of the utilities.

  • Chicago’s Downtown Museums: Another Perk of Apartment Living in the City

    Posted by admin | October 15, 2010 | No Comments » |

When you rent apartments in Chicago, you come to know the neighborhood you live in better than any other part of the city. When your new neighborhood is downtown, you learn about all of the cultural institutions that are easily accessible from your new home. There are many famous museums near downtown Chicago apartments, as well as a few up-and-coming museums that all Chicagoans should get to know.

Along with the institutions that many people around the country are aware of, like the Art Institute of Chicago, The Field Museum of Natural History and the Shedd Aquarium, here are some additional museums that may interest those new to apartment living in downtown Chicago. Or, if you’ve lived downtown for years and haven’t taken the time to visit these educational establishments, now’s the time, and here are a few you should check out:

Museum of Science and Industry – For an interactive experience that makes “science and industry” anything but dry, try the Museum of Science and Industry. Its landmark building in the famous Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago is easily reached by public transit and is a short hop from a downtown apartment. The current exhibits introduce you to the physics of natural storms, the greenest high-tech home in Chicago and Jim Henson’s world of Muppets.

Chicago History Museum – For those who have just moved into a Chicago apartment for rent, a great place to start exploring the Chicago museum scene is the History Museum in Lincoln Park. Adjacent to other Chicago landmarks like the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, the History Museum can teach you everything you need to know about the colorful history of your new city as well as introducing you to one of the most beautiful parts of town. Chicago has hosted some of the world’s most famous gangsters, bootleggers and corrupt public officials—you can learn about it all at the Chicago History Museum.

Chicago Children’s Museum – Located on Chicago’s famous tourist destination, Navy Pier, the Children’s Museum is obviously a great place to visit with the kids. With exciting seasonal events and exhibits, getting your young children out of your downtown apartment is easy when you can take them down to the Children’s Museum. Children can learn about safety, the arts and the city of Chicago while interacting with fun and colorful exhibits!

Museum of Contemporary Art – If still life and portraits leave you wishing for a more innovative art experience, take a trip to the MCA. With installations, performances and educational classes like “Coffee and Art,” you can experience and understand modern art in modern ways! Along with the museum’s monthly after-work affair, First Friday, a variety of events and a Wolfgang Puck eatery within the museum make it a destination that shouldn’t be missed in the city.

National Veterans Art Museum – A unique museum located in the South Loop of Chicago, the National Veterans Art Museum began as a way for soldiers who fought in Vietnam to exhibit their artistic representations and fight the stigma of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Now, the museum serves to exhibit art by veterans of any war, with a new focus on the art of Iraq and Afghanistan vets. Its distinct space displays the dog tags of thousands of veterans hanging from its ceiling. As both a tribute to our troops and an exploration of modern art, the Museum is a lesser known but equally worthy member of Chicago’s art offerings.

Whether you need an activity to do with the family, are looking to educate yourself about your new city or just need a way to fill a Saturday afternoon, visiting one of Chicago’s famous or not-so-famous museums is always a rewarding experience. With a Chicago apartment in the downtown loop, it’s also incredibly convenient. Check out some of our Chicago apartments for rent here.
