As nice as it is to have a Chicago luxury condo, sometimes it’s just as nice to enjoy the outdoors. And with summer approaching, running becomes more and more popular, though it can be difficult to hit the trails alone. That’s why starting a running club can be the perfect way to enjoy running and a little socialization, and it’s easy to start one through your condo association!
The most important thing to do is find other people who have a passion for running. Some ways to do this is by going to condo association meetings and announcing the desire to begin one. Another option is checking social media networks for running enth
usiasts in your area.Existing national organizations like the Road Runners Club of America offer advice on beginning a club as well. Some of these clubs may even sponsor your running group, so it’s a good idea to check around before beginning one.
As your club expands, it will include runners of different experience levels. It’s a good idea to split your club into skill levels, and you can alternate the types of runs each level does on certain days. For example, beginners could take their long run (2 or three miles) while advanced runners focus on speed work (timed miles).
Splitting into several skill levels can also be helpful when training for specific runs. Often times 5Ks and 10Ks go hand in and, as do half-marathons and full ones. By splitting into groups, everyone can train toward his or her specific goal.
Many running clubs enjoy a social aspect such as ending everyone’s run at a bar for post-run drinks and meeting other runners. While you can socialize while running, it is more enjoyable for everyone to have a dedicated time for talking. You can also add social events outside of running itself. If your group becomes large enough, you can help sponsor other athletic events, such as handing out water at a triathlon or holding a “new runners” training session.
Starting a “newsletter” or simply a sheet of paper with upcoming runs around the city is a great way to keep everyone informed of sponsored runs and scheduled training days. If you don’t want to shell out the cash for a newsletter, a Facebook page or a website would work just as well.
Remember why you started the group in the first place, and enjoy running! It is everyone in the group’s release, so get out there and run your heart out. The most important part of starting a running club is to not let it become a stressor. You started it to get out of your apartment and run, so do just that.

Chicago is known for its beautiful river, loveable sports teams, magnificent skyscrapers, and the most epic summer in the country, but most Chicagoans agree the thing that makes this city a top contender is the food. As a city with 23 Michelin stars and a slew of untapped dining treasures, it’s no wonder that Chicago has some of the proudest and most loyal residents. If you live downtown, Chicago condos can accompany the perfect city lifestyle that allows you explore and indulge in the most famous Midwest food staples.
Here are some of the top competitors for these infamous edible legends:
Portillo’s: Opened in 1963, Portillo’s is a perfect example of everything that represents the windy city. Known for both its hot dogs and Italian beef, this is one Chicago staple you don’t want to miss. The messy, unique Chicago Italian beef sandwich was created on the South Side of Chicago as a variation of the French dip. The flavorful paper thin beef is soaked in juice and layered generously onto Italian bread loaves, topped with sautéed green peppers and giardiniera, which is typically a hot, spicy blend of chopped Serrano peppers, carrots, cauliflower, celery, olives, herbs and oil and vinegar. Hungry yet?
Uno Chicago Grill: This is where the Deep Dish dynasty truly began. In 1943, a man named Ike Sewell opened a restaurant on the corner of Ohio Street and Wabash Avenue in Chicago. At this time, Americans primarily ate pizza as a snack, but Ike figured if he utilized some of Italy’s authentic recipes, ingredients and methods, pizza would become a hearty meal. Now Uno Chicago Grill boasts an impressive 160 locations across the world.
But what really makes deep dish unique? This pizza begins with a thick layer of dough laid into a deep round pan and pulled up by the sides, almost like a piecrust. The dough is partially baked before the rest of the ingredients are added to ensure a fried, crispy outside texture and flavor. Then, generous portions of sliced cheese are layered on top of the dough, followed by meats, usually in a solid layer or patty. And here’s the part that some people call crazy – the hearty red sauce is beautifully slathered over the meat as the final layer to this delectable Chicago staple.
Hot Doug’s: The Chicago-style hot dog is not something to mess around with. A steamed all-beef frankfurter nestles into a poppy seed bun before disappearing from sight under the traditional toppings of yellow mustard, chopped white onions, sweet pickle relish (often dyed neon green), a dill pickle spear, tomato wedges, pickled sport peppers and a dash of celery salt. Known as the “king of encased meats”, Hot Doug’s is a unique location that entices residents and visitors alike to stand in line, winding all the way down the sidewalk, for one of their famous hot dogs. Not only do the sell the Chicago-style dog, but they also offer an array of perfectly prepared meats like the polish sausage, the bratwurst, andouille sausage, Thuringian sausage and their always-innovative daily specials.

Parades, parties, Guinness and a green river, this could only mean one thing in Chicago: St. Patrick’s Day.
It doesn’t matter if you’re Swedish, Polish, Jewish, or any other kind of ‘ish’, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. This celebratory holiday is oozing with history, culture, tradition and of course, an absurd amount of fun. For people who own Chicago condos, this is one celebration full of events you don’t want to miss.
Here is quick list of some of the best St. Patrick’s Day Events and Traditions in Chicago:
The 56th annual and infamous Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade will surface once again on Saturday, March 12th to bring Chicagoans a taste of one of the most celebrated Irish holidays. Known as the largest parade in the city, the streets will be overflowing with thousands of magnificent floats, marchers, bands, politicians and bagpipers. Led by our own “Irish King”, Mayor Richard M. Daley, the parade starts at Balbo Ave and Columbus Drive at 12:00 PM. The crowds will be lively and large throughout the day, so, as any native should know, it is highly recommended to utilize the CTA (Blue or Red Line to the Loop). Of course, it is possible to drive, and if you should choose to brave the roads, parking can be found underground at Grant Park garage, the Hilton at Balbo and Michigan, the Aqua garage on Columbus, or other nearby lots; but remember, the parking is expensive and will fill up extremely fast. Entry to the parade is free.
Every year the festivities are marked by the long-standing tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green. Originating in 1962, this amazingly entertaining event was dubbed the “Irish miracle” as the dye goes in to the river a shade of orange and, as legend says, gets a leprechaun’s help to then turn into its true shade of kelly green. As a kick off to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, you can watch the dyeing of the river at 10:40 AM from any of the bridges that cross the river on the north side of the Loop.
It’s true the Irish love to celebrate, so what is there to do after a spectacular parade? A festival, of course! The IAHC holds its St. Patrick’s Day festival beginning at 1:00 PM following the downtown parade. Celebrating into all hours of the evening, Irish-spirited Chicagoans can enjoy this large, family-oriented event with traditional and contemporary Irish music, dance, food and children’s activities. If you’re too overwhelmed with fun after the parade and simply cannot indulge any further, the IAHC is also holding an event on Thursday, March 17th beginning at 1:00 PM at the Center’s Fifth Province Lounge. The daylong event runs until midnight and tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under accompanied by a paying adult.
The D4 Irish Pub & Café knows nothing but the ways of the Irish. Located at 345 E. Ohio Street, this pub favorite celebrates all month, including performances by the Trinity Irish Dancers, Chicago Reel, an exceptional Irish menu features and traditional drink specials.
March Dates and Events at D4 Irish Pub & Café :
Though this list offers versatile opportunities for fun over the next week, it does not even begin to skim the top of the (green) water. There are innumerable bars, pubs, parties, charities, Irish organizations and events highlighting this traditional celebration throughout the city of Chicago. No matter who you are or where you come from, you can guarantee you’re Irish in Chicago during the month of March.
