Along with extraordinary location, eclectic architecture, outstanding quality and uncommon resident incentives, Magellan Development Group provides home buyers at award-winning Lakeshore East the rare opportunity to design their own living space.
“Whether the approach is gaining more space by combining units or making structural changes to a typical floor plan, the objective is to create a unique living space that fits the buyer’s lifestyle,” explained Lee Okamoto, Magellan design consultant.
One buyer, for example, purchased and combined three condominium residences in the mixed-use Aqua tower to “provide plenty of entertaining space, along with having separate bedrooms and bathrooms for their three children. The bonus of this combination is the fantastic views of the lake and skyline.”
Another empty-nester couple combined two units for an in-town residence at Aqua to meet their own special needs. Along with providing room for visiting children and grandchildren, they enlarged a bathroom to include a giant hot tub and converted a bedroom to a sauna and fitness room that rivals any private gym.
Okamoto observes that while it is more cost-efficient to combine or re-design residences before their homes are literally cast in concrete, others have still opted to make structural changes after completion of Lakeshore East’s condo towers and Parkhomes.
Kelly Drinnan, another Magellan design consultant, mentioned “Our multi-story Benton Place Parkhomes where virtually every owner has altered floor plans by either combining units or simply revising the existing floor plan. If there is such a thing as a common denominator to the changes created by the new owners, it is to personalize the space to meet their particular needs. It can mean adding or eliminating bathrooms or expanding them to allow additional storage. It might be expanding a master bedroom to create a private sitting area or, as in one instance, replacing a guest bedroom with a home theater. Or expanding the open kitchen/dining living space where entertaining is a primary mission of the residence is a common design request.
“Buying early gives us a chance to familiarize ourselves with the buyer’s tastes and interests to allow us to help us meet their objectives. Since at present all our buildings are complete – though there will be more in the future – changes require structural and architectural reviews before we can proceed. But we do have a number of residences where changes can be made, including an 81st floor Aqua penthouse that we can describe as ‘raw’ condition,” she explained.
Nestled between Millennium Park to the south and two blocks from Michigan Avenue to the west, Lakeshore East is an iconic 21st century neighborhood that combines privacy and intimacy with easy access to virtually everything Chicago has to offer
With vision and vigor, Magellan has transformed a former harbor, port, depository for debris from the Great Chicago Fire, railroad freight yard and storage facility and 9-hole golf course into a flourishing community. Conquering challenging topography that presented a three-story grade differential from street level, Lakeshore East has evolved into a $4 billion, 28-acre lifestyle center that includes homes, retail, recreational opportunities and amenities such as an oft-awarded lush 6-acre public park and the recently opened 115,000-square-foot Village Market retail center featuring a 55,000-square-foot bi-level Mariano’s Fresh Market and 13,000-square-foot III Forks Prime Steakhouse as anchor tenants..
Residential developments at Lakeshore East currently include eight completed and occupied buildings. They include the 29-story Lancaster, the community’s first condominium building with 209 residences; The Shoreham, a 46-story apartment tower with 548 residences; The Regatta, a 44-story condominium building with 325 residences; The Chandler; a 35-story condominium building with 304 residences; 340 on the Park, a 62-story condominium building with 344 residences and the 51-story The Tides, the community’s second rental property with 607 residences.
Also completed are the 87-story Aqua, the first high-rise in the city designed uniquely to combine residential, hotel and retail spaces, including a cluster of nine Parkhomes in the podium designed by Aqua’s highly-acclaimed design architect Jeanne Gang and The Benton Place Parkhomes, an enclave of 25 gracious townhomes.
A diverse retail component of the community is highlighted by The Village Market retail center that will soon add to its roster a Maison Brasserie Moderne, Eggy’s Breakfast Café and Cuticles Nail Salon. Other neighborhood services include a Fifth Third Bank facility, Caffé Rom gourmet coffee shop, CVS Pharmacy and CHALK Preschool that offers two-, three- or five-days a week programs for children aged two to five.
