As we’ve mentioned before, there are many awesomely convenient aspects to living in Chicago’s Lakeshore East neighborhood, from the many restaurants, Mariano’s grocery store, beautiful parks, and more. However, during our admittedly harsh winters, nothing is more convenient than the Chicago Pedway, a network of underground concourses and tunnels that is connected to Lakeshore East and extends throughout the Loop.
Featuring access to buildings, the CTA, a variety of shops, restaurants, post offices, dry cleaners, banks, and even the DMV, the Pedway can help you avoid the freezing cold and icy windchills – in fact, depending on your destination, you may be able to avoid going outside at all!
Perhaps the most obvious use of the Pedway is to access the CTA or office buildings in the Loop, but there’s a variety of dining options in the Pedway as well. Serious Eats Chicago has an excellent round-up of the best places to eat in the Pedway, there’s an Intelligentsia coffee kiosk very near Lakeshore East, and there’s access to an LA Fitness gym (as if the fantastic workout options in your building weren’t enough). You can also access the State Street Macy’s and Block 37 mall, so there are plenty of retail choices as well.
And of course, here’s where you can check our most recent downtown Chicago real estate listings!
