Chicago Green Lifestyle: Luxury Green Living by the Numbers

Posted by admin | July 7, 2010 | No Comments » |

Residents of our Chicago apartments know that living in a green building is about more than just square feet of open space or dollars saved on energy bills. Living in a green building, with access to beautiful urban gardens and parks, takes your home from being just your apartment space and expands your sense of home to include the whole neighborhood.

Although the green experience can’t be summed up by strictly numbers, we still thought it might be helpful to compile facts on our green community in one place. Here’s Lakeshore East, by the numbers!

  • Lakeshore East is a 28-acre master-planned green community.
  • 40% of the community is green and open space.
  • That’s 590,000 square feet of green and open space!
  • Over 3,000 residences at Lakeshore East will face green or open space.
  • Lakeshore East’s front yard is a 6-acre botanical park.
  • The Park has 500 planted trees of more than 20 varieties.
  • More than 100 varieties of plants and flowers.
  • Additionally, Aqua has an 80,000-square-foot outdoor garden capping a three-story podium at its base.
  • There are 15 green roofs planned for the community.
  • Three I-GO car stations are planned within Lakeshore East.
  • There are currently 6 electric car charging stations that accommodate up to 24 cars in Aqua.
  • Lakeshore East has immediate access to 29 miles of lakefront paths in Chicago.
  • The neighborhood is 100% walkable according to Walkscore.com
  • It is one of 138 urban neighborhoods in the US dubbed “Walkers’ Paradises” by the site.
  • Construction is underway on a 105,000-square-foot green retail center, the new Village Market Center.
  • There will be 15,000 square feet of un-irrigated green rooftop on the Village Market Center.
  • The waste management plan for Aqua diverted 84% of construction waste from landfills to be recycled.
  • The community has 1 LEED certification (Chicago’s first) for 340 on the Park.
  • Hopefully, we’ll achieve 2 more LEED certifications with Aqua and the Village Market Center.
