This month, Magellan will throw a “Spring Fling” fundraiser for our charitable partner Chicago Youth Programs. In Aqua, the home of our newest Chicago condos for sale and apartments for rent, we’ll host an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dinner stations, live and silent auctions and live entertainment by the band Dr. Bombay! Along with our co-sponsor National City Bank, we’re planning an evening for our attendees to enjoy that will also generate funding for the worthy work of Chicago Youth Programs.
Chicago Youth Programs (CYP) works to improve the health and life opportunities of at-risk youth. In the past 26 years, CYP has served Chicago’s underprivileged youth in some of the most impoverished communities– Cabrini Green, Washington Park and Uptown/Rogers Park. Youth programs assist these kids from birth until college, helping them achieve excellence in their school work and encouraging them to pursue higher education.
650 volunteers work with at-risk youths and their families to help them escape the cycle of poverty through preparation, placement and success in higher education and job training. Since 1999, CYP has placed at least 85% of youth each year into higher education, compared to community rates of less than 20%. The programs also have a retention rate of 94%. Through the combined initiatives of tutoring programs, free health-care, recreational opportunities, cultural activities and career placement services, CYP helps develop the natural capabilities of youths in these communities.
Even with an almost entirely volunteer staff, CYP still needs substantial resources to run its programs in these at-risk neighborhoods. We’ll try to provide them with some of the necessary funding to carry on their amazing work with our night at Aqua.
On May 20th, we’ll host our “Spring Fling” party and auction to benefit CYP on the 3rd floor pool deck of Aqua. The event will run from 6pm – 9pm, and guests will be treated to the musical stylings of Chicago band Dr. Bombay. Along with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and buffet stations, guests can bid on items during both live and silent auctions.
Tickets are a recommended donation of $150 dollars and if you buy four, you get a fifth ticket free! Visit the Chicago Youth Programs’ website to buy tickets or simply to donate to their worthy cause.
