More at Stake than Hamburger Pride…
Magellan Development Group teamed up with Underwriters Laboratories, local TV weather personalities and a group of leading chefs to kick off a summer safety program with grilling safety tips and a burger grilling competition.
Lining up for the “heated” battle on the amenities roof deck of Aqua to kick off the Memorial Day weekend May 29 were ABC Food Reporter Steve Dolinsky, CBS Meteorologist Don Schwenneker, Fox Meteorologist Mark Strehl and NBC Meteorologist Andy Avalos.
The panel of judges to see which reporter would grill Chicago’s Best Burger, Safely included Rick Gresh executive chef of David Burke’s Primehouse; Aaron Deal, executive chef of Custom House; Audry Triplett, executive chef of Gibson’s Steazkhouse; Bernie Laskowski, executive chef of Park Grill; and John Drengenberg, director of Consumer Safety for Underwriters Laboratories.
As the competition proceeded under the watchful eye of Magellan Community Relations Director Vanessa Casciano the flexible weathermen were also able to advise viewers of the beautiful start to the holiday weekend while the UL and restaurants provided viewers and a throng of visitors tips on both safety and grilling delicious burgers.
A serious message underlying the really fun event is the fact that more than 3 billion meals are prepared on the grill every year and that grilling accidents send thousands of people to emergency rooms for treatment and cause millions of dollars in property damage.
Don Schwenneker of CBS also claimed CBB (Chicago’s Best Burger) and he received a $10,000 check for his charity, Feed My Starving Children.
Recapping the event, Casciano summed up that “we had amazing weather for the Media Grilling Event and the burgers were awesome.”
