Magellan Development Half Marathon and 10K to Benefit Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute: Runners to raise funds for brain cancer research
CHICAGO – Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute has been selected by Magellan Development Group as their charity partner for the Magellan Development Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 10K Race. Funds raised will support the recently launched Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute and it various programs. The race takes place at 7:00 am on Sunday, May 16 in the Park at Lakeshore East, located just north of Millennium Park at Field Drive and Randolph Street.
“We are very grateful for the support of Magellan and the race organizers,” said James Chandler, MD, surgical director of neuro-oncology and co-director of the Institute. “It is imperative that we increase awareness of brain cancer and raise funds to support life-saving research and clinical trials so we can find better treatment options and ultimately, a cure.”
Hospital staff and support group members plan to participate in the race. Among the participants are medical director of neuro-oncology and co-director of the Institute Jeffrey Raizer, MD, director of research Marcus Bredel, MD, PhD, and Chandler. “I look forward to participating on behalf of my patients as we have to support those who support us; I’ll be thinking of their determination as I train for and run this race,” said Raizer.
“Magellan chose to support NBTI when my husband was diagnosed at the hospital”, said Robin Loewenberg Berger, Chief Marketing Officer of Magellan Development, co-chair of the event. “We want to raise awareness of this vital program and have created several VIP Charity Sponsorship opportunities.” Package highlights include a VIP cocktail party and auction on April 14th at Aqua, recently named the 2009 Skyscraper of the Year. Celebrity host Kathy Brock, ABC7 co-anchor will auction prizes including a dinner for 10 with celebrity chef Art Smith as well as other fabulous offerings. Bill Zwecker, FOX News entertainment reporter will serve as master of ceremonies on race day for VIP pre and post race events.
