Our Charitable Endeavors: The Chicago Spring Half and More

Posted by admin | May 12, 2010 | No Comments » |

Living in a Lakeshore East means more than just picking a Chicago apartment or condo. Our Chicago developments make up a community on the New East Side, and as a community, we like to work together to give back the best we can! One of our biggest charitable efforts is just around the corner in May– the Chicago Spring Half Marathon that benefits Northwestern University Brain Tumor Institute. But our company and our residents are involved in charity all over the city in addition to our yearly events.

The Chicago Spring Half Marathon

Our big springtime event features a half marathon, 10K and junior dash, and proceeds go to the Northwestern University Brain Tumor Institute. Last year’s race attracted nearly 2,500 attendees and participants. The race allows the community to contribute to the Institute in a number of ways other than actually running– monetary donations, joining a fundraising team, volunteering at the event, sponsoring a race team or VIP Event Donor Packages all allow companies and individuals to support the cause.

The Institute is one of the premier cancer treatment centers in the nation and a worthy beneficiary of our community’s efforts. As a leader in treatment and research of brain and spinal tumors, NBTI provides help to patients from all over the nation who come to Chicago for help.

This year, our half marathon has a new and improved course, and we’ve partnered with CAPRI Events to plan a perfect race day! To learn more about the event and how to contribute or volunteer, visit the race’s website and check out the new course of the half marathon below.

Lakeshore East and the American Red Cross

After the tragic aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, our community united to support another charity, the American Red Cross. Simply by asking residents of Lakeshore East to stop into their property management office or the Lakeshore East Gallery this January and contribute what they could, we raised $1,400 to benefit the Red Cross’s efforts in Haiti. A feeling of community unites the Lakeshore East development when we team up to work in Chicago but also when we work together to provide for those in need across the globe.

Magellan Development and Lakeshore East residents also participate in the Friends of Downtown organization, fundraise for the Chicago Youth Programs and work with the Ogden School Mentor Program. Throughout the year, our team also plans and executes many events for our residents that aim to contribute to our Chicago community or to larger charities and causes. You can read more about our charitable efforts and how to support them here.

Joining the community at Lakeshore East is about more than just buying a condo or renting an apartment. As we develop our “village within the city,” the support and charity of a real urban community is developing here on the New East Side, too. And we think the sense of community is just another reason why it’s great to live at Lakeshore East!
