While summers in Chicago often get all the love and are touted in the media as a key reason to live in this city, autumn can be an equally wonderful time to live here – especially if you live in the heart of the city in a downtown Chicago condo.
Not only is the Bears season in full swing and the Bulls and the Blackhawks are kicking off their seasons (we won’t mention the Cubs – there’s always next year), there are hundreds of activities and events for all types of weather, tastes, and age groups.
With Halloween coming up, there are dozens of spooky haunted houses, pumpkin and apple picking, leaf viewing at Starved Rock (or just at the city’s many parks), hay rides, corn mazes and more are fun for all ages. And of course, there are plenty of Halloween party options for the grown-ups.
There are also quite a few notable concerts coming up, including Drake, Fiona Apple, and Thom Yorke’s Atoms for Peace.
For something more cultured, the Museum of Science and Industry is celebrating its 80th birthday with the 80 for 80 exhibit, full of little known artifacts. The Field Museum is featuring Titans of the Ice Age in 3D, showcasing some of the most awe-inspiring mammals that have ever lived, and the Art Institute just opened 3 in 1: Contemporary Explorations in Architecture and Design that combine fashion, architecture, and product design created by global thought leaders.
Many highly anticipated restaurants are opening in fall 2013 as well, including Mario Batali’s Eataly (eight Italian restaurants from the maestro chef), Tippling Hall, a bar from the creators of Mercadito, and Honey Butter Fried Chicken (self-explanatory) serving the freshest downhome eats.
And last but not least, there is always ice skating in Millenium Park once the temperatures drop – no matter what your skill level, this is a fantastic way to enjoy our beautiful city that’s conveniently located right next to our downtown Chicago condos at Lakeshore East.

Living in the heart of the Windy City is a wonderful experience for many reasons – as anyone who is lucky to live in Lakeshore East already understands.
1. Convenience – Being close to virtually everything in Chicago makes like easier overall. A shorter commute, being only a minute’s walk from the grocery store (or you can just get them delivered)
2. The Pedway – Not having to go outside during one of the Second City’s brutal winters is wonderful in and of itself, but the ability to reach your office without venturing out into freezing temperatures makes Lakeshore East’s location a serious bonus for anyone who works downtown.
3. The Views – Being able to see the Lake, the Chicago skyline, and the most beautiful parks in the city right from your condo or townhome is one of the major perks of living downtown in the Second City.
4. The Parks – Walking directly outside your condo and being either in or near one of Chicago’s most remarkable green spaces is one of the major perks of living in Lakeshore East. It’s particularly helpful if you have a dog – you can walk your pup and enjoy one of the city’s most elegant dog parks.
5. The Exceptional Real Estate – The condos available in Lakeshore East are second to none in regard to their luxurious finishes and elegant layouts, with views that encompass the city skyline, the Lake, and Chicago’s most beautiful parks.

One of the many perks of living in Lakeshore East or anywhere in downtown Chicago is that while there are many excellent grocery stores (including our favorite, Mariano’s Fresh Market), there is also a wealth of options for anyone who wants to take a break from the grocery grind and have their staples delivered to their door.
Instacart – The newest player on the Chicago scene, Instacart was launched in San Francisco and recently started offering services here in the Second City. Right now they only provide items from Trader Joes, but other grocery store choices are on the horizon, and they offer same-day delivery.
Artizone – Offering artisanal, locally-made products delivered to your door, this service has a couple unique factors, including the ability to shop by a complete recipe as opposed to random ingredients. You can also set your delivery date within a two hour window of time, in order to ensure anything that needs to be refrigerated is taken care of.
Door to Door Organics – Another option that allows users to shop by recipe as well individual ingredients, Door to Door organics focuses on produce boxes and other farm-fresh food. Users can choose mixed boxes, or just fruit or just veggies, and everything comes from local farms. Perfect if you don’t have time to go the farmers market on a regular basis – let it come to you!
PeaPod - Already popular in Chicago, Peapod offers most grocery basics and the ability to select from a two hour delivery window. The service also doubles manufacturer coupons up to $.99.
Want to give up the grocery cart, the crowds, and waiting in the checkout line? These affordable options make your life easier and more efficient.
Don’t live in the delivery zone for any of these services? Move to downtown Chicago – check out our available luxury condo listings today!

Living in downtown Chicago has many perks, including the many flash sale and daily deal sites. While Groupon is perhaps the best known of the daily deal sites, there are many more interesting – and more luxurious – options. Here is our run-down:
Gilt City – The localized version of the premier luxury flash sale site, Gilt City often has excellent specials on spa packages, personal training, shopping and sample sales, fine dining, cooking classes, boat and jet ski rentals, sky diving, race car driving, and many other special experiences.
Yipit – This site rounds up daily deals from a wide variety of places, delivering the best of the best to your inbox. It is especially great for finding dining specials, making it the ideal site to check if you want to try new local restaurants and need some inspiration.
Living Social – Amazon’s own flash sale site, it has a mix of local options and national online shopping markdowns.
YouSwoop – Another deal round-up option that often lists plenty of local events and activities – if you are ever at a loss for what to do on the weekend, YouSwoop is the place to look.
3 O’Clock Club – This site features a round-up of deals posted daily at 3pm that focuses more on practical but still useful items.
Jetsetter – While this is more of a travel site, Jetsetter often has deals on Chicago area hotels and entertainment that can be an excellent “staycation” if you ever need a local getaway.
Groupon.com - The grandaddy of all the daily deal sites, Groupon still has plenty of fantastic local sales listed daily, so it is definitely worth signing up for their emails.
Magellan Rewards – While its not exactly a flash sale site, Lakeshore East residents have the advantage of the Magellan Rewards discount on Chicago restaurants, car sharing services, interior design, home maintenance, and more.

As many Chicagoans would agree, there really isn’t a better meal than brunch, especially in downtown Chicago. The city is filled with popular brunch locations to satisfy everyone’s leisurely weekend breakfast or lunch desires. Finding a restaurant that serves brunch is the easy part, but finding one without an hour (or more) long wait is a little more challenging. Therefore, next time you have a craving for brunch, check out one of these spots where timing should be in your favor.
Starting off close to home, Eggy’s is only steps away in our very own Village Market. Eggy’s is an urban, hip, neighborhood café, serving American diner classics with a fresh, lighter approach. Their goal is to remind diners of home-cooked meals, which is always difficult to pass up. Open daily from 7:30am to 3:00pm, Eggy’s is a must try, especially for Lakeshore East residents.
The appropriately named Brunch serves some of the best breakfast and lunch plates in River North. This café features a 20-person breakfast bar, a private boardroom-style seating for eight and a grab-and-go area for diners who want to snag a takeout pastry or coffee. Speaking of coffee, Brunch utilizes a reusable coffee mug program that encourages diners to bring their own cup and donate it for future use. If that wasn’t enough, you can also get your boots buffed on site at the shoe shine station. So for a great meal and a shoe shine, visit Brunch in River North. An added bonus? It’s conveniently located for Lakeshore East condo and townhome residents.
The husband and wife duo of Stephen and Nicole Outrequin Quaisser bring France cuisine to River North with this upscale bistro. They feature dishes like Cassoulet with duck confit, an LM burger with foie gras and truffle frites and a two or three course prix fixe lunch menu that includes options such as beef tartare, organic salmon and crème brulee for dessert. If you enjoy any of those dishes, then you definitely want to make a trip to this River North French bistro.
Last but certainly not least, the popular River North brunch spot Orange that also has locations in Roscoe Village, Lincoln Park and River West, serves a host of playful brunch fare. You’ll definitely want to try their signature items including “frushi” (seasonal fresh fruit rolled like sushi with fruit juice-infused rice), jelly doughnut pancakes, buttermilk pancakes stuffed with house made jelly and topped with citrus butter, and the classic green eggs and ham with roasted tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella. Since your mouth is most likely watering now, be sure to check out Orange soon for some delicious and decadent meals.
Lakeshore East residents don’t have to travel far from their downtown Chicago condo for a great weekend brunch. Check out our available Lakeshore East real estate listings and move closer to all these great restaurants!
