  • Artist’s Unique Depiction of Aqua Tower

Giants of Chicago - Aqua Building by Alberto March

Digital photographer /graphic designer Alberto March has created an extraordinary canvas portrayal of Lakeshore East’s incomparable Aqua Tower now being displayed as part of a Giants of Chicago exhibition at the National Autonomous University of Mexico at 350 W. Erie St.

March, 51, a native of Venezuela, inspired by the “audacity façade” of the internationally acclaimed structure designed by Architect Jeanne Gang, principal of Studio Gang Architects, explains his compelling technique as “digital photographic pieces of interwoven reality and fiction of outstanding skyscrapers in Chicago.” The photos are manipulated with Photoshop and illustrator technics and printed on canvas, he explains.

He recalls being moved by how Aqua’s façade breaks the area where it is located “with vibrant curve lines filling the space with movement and incorporating to the landscape undulating ripples.”  He also admired how Gang “juxtaposed straight and curved lines, creating a pattern that looks as a soft-draped fabric. In addition, she made it possible for a solid concrete and glass structure to look like a malleable giant with a calm rhythm.”

These interpretations are well reflected in March’s own imaginative design.

March stared studying art and music at the age of 14 in his native Venezuela and went on to earn degrees in Graphic Design, Advertising and Marketing. He went on to collaborate on various projects with such internationally famous artists as Victor Valera, Alirio Palacios and Luisa Richter. From 1980 to 1990 he participated in-group exhibitions in Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Central America.

The Giants of Chicago exhibition presents 16 digital photographic pieces offers a hyper realistic view of the iconic architecture of Chicago that include, among others, John Hancock, Marina Towers, Aon Center, One Museum Park.

A special limited edition of 25 prints of each of the architectural giants in the exhibit is available for purchase at www.marchphotoart.com.  20”x30” prints are $270 and 30”x40” prints are $365.

For additional information visit website or telephone Alberto March at 312-842-1186.
