Labor Day 2016 In Chicago
Labor Day is Monday, September 5th, 2016 this year. That means the end of summer leading up to the long weekend is hot with activities in the Chicagoland area. Labor Day in Chicago is a big deal. Everyone wants to grab that last bit of fantastic weather before the official fall season begins. Luckily for residents and visitors alike, there are a bounty of fun activities to explore. Chicago Jazz Festival September 1-4
This is an event that takes place every year to massive amounts of fan fair. People love this jazz festival that brings thousands of musicians to the area. You can hear the headliners at Millennium Park, but many other acts play at the Chicago Cultural Center. The Taste Of Polonia September 2-5
If you are more of a food lover, you might want to explore this popular polish food festival. Located in Jefferson park, you can dance a polka on the main floor where many musical acts will perform, load up on perogies, and see various artworks by polish craftsmen. Navy Pier Fireworks September 3
It’s your last chance to catch some spectacular fireworks this summer at Navy Pier. This landmark attraction is always bustling in Chicago, but will have extra activities and events through the weekend. The fireworks are free to all and will start at 10:15 pm, right over Lake Michigan to light up the skyline
Catch a Cubs Game September 1-4
The Cubs will be in town over the holiday weekend taking on the San Francisco Giants. Could this be the year they go all the way? Shake off the curse and get down to Wrigleyville to cheer on this much beloved team. It’s a miracle! Go Cubbies! If you are a White Sox fan, they are also playing at home on Labor Day; purchase your tickets early to check out U. S. Cellular Field on the South Side of Chicago at 4:10 pm.
Take a Booze Cruise September 2-4
This one is less of a family event and more for the partying crowd that likes to have a wild good time. The “Summer Of George” Booze Cruise takes off at 6:00 pm sharp on the 4th to head out with two levels of open air enjoyment on the water. This is a 21 and up only cruise with a DJ spinning tunes for the entire three hour excursion. You’ll get to see some of Chicago’s most famous sites though passing by Navy Pier, Willis Tower, and the Buckingham Fountain. If you can’t go on Sunday, there are other times during the weekend to book this boozy boat.
